A few days ago, my mom told me that I was in the newspaper back home. I had been asked to give the graduation speech, which I accepted, so they put my name in as the commencement speaker. Today, she took a picture and sent it to me; I was excited.
When I sat down to reflect this afternoon, I realized that over the past few months, I’ve been experiencing a trajectory in my career. Opportunities that were distant dreams were now staring me straight in my face. It seemed like forever ago, but last year, I didn’t think I would be in this position this year. I was pushing hard and writing when no one was reading, speaking when no one would hear me; I was putting in a lot of hard work that was going unnoticed. I didn’t feel up to it at times, and there were moments when I got frustrated, but in the end I kept going. Now, every blessing that I’m experiencing—TV & radio career, entrepreneurship and speaking—I can move forward with because I was prepared. Preparation is key.
For you, there will be moments when you feel like giving up because you don’t see anything. Each moment of disappointment, feeling of stagnation, desire to give up, it is on purpose and will prepare your for moments of greatness. Continue to perfect your gifts and talents when no one is watching because someone will eventually take notice and when they do, you’re going to soar. Your gift will open doors and give you access to prominent people. Keep the faith and stay focused!
